Woodbury Farm, built in about 1760, is an unusual full-square, hipped-roof colonial house.

Its five spacious downstairs rooms with two fireplaces immediately transport you back to colonial times -- "Indian Shutters" on the windows, a Dutch Oven in the massive brick fireplace, hand-hewn oak beams throughout and wide hardwood boards in the kitchen recall an era when the forests were uncut and life was simple. The property, with its more than 100 acres of fields, woods, and ponds, has been owned by just two families for almost its entire 244-year existence.

Follow the nature trails through the unspoiled woods, sit on benches by the four-acre pond and maybe spot great blue herons, foxes, deer, or beavers, and search for wildflowers along the bank of a rushing brook, with secluded spots for picnics or just sitting quietly. There's a natural spring for fishing in summer or skating in winter, and trails for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and animal tracking. An old quartz-mica-feldspar mine on the property is popular with mineral collectors and school field trips -- guests are welcome to collect some souvenir minerals.

Woodbury Farm, while retaining a casual country feel, is also set up with all the modern comforts. Its well-appointed fully-modernized kitchen has new appliances including microwave and dishwasher, but also retains an old-time country feeling with its oversized farm-style trestle table and benches and antique hutch. The living room has High-Definition TV with cable,  and there is broadband Internet with both wired (ethernet) and Wi-Fi wireless access throughout the house, as well as digital telephone service with unlimited long-distance calling anywhere in the US, Canada, and most of Europe (list of countries included is available here). The spacious pantry includes washer and dryer. All linens, tableware and cookware are provided, and the house is comfortably furnished with an easygoing mix of antique and contemporary furniture. Children are welcome.

Only an hour from Boston's Logan Airport, and just 20 minutes from Manchester airport, Woodbury Farm is easily accessible and close to many of the state's most interesting attractions: State park with swimming, boating, fishing, camping, and hiking just 15 minutes away; the ocean, with Hampton Beach for swimming, shopping and fireworks, and Rye Harbor for whale watching or deep-sea fishing just 30 minutes away;. Portsmouth with its historic houses and fine shopping, Lake Winnipesaukee for swimming and boating, and Boston for sports, symphony or museums, are all within about an hour's drive.
